Hiatt Middle School

Hiatt Middle School is located at 1214 East 15th Street in a historic part of Des Moines. It has 515 students in grades 6–8. The school has 14:1 students  teacher ratio and is committed to making sure that all students are healthy in a welcoming environment. Half of the students are female and half are male. In math, 32% of students are at the level of proficiency, and in reading, 33% are. The school has a lot of activities to support different interests. Some of these are the Boys & Girls Club, Science Bound, and special empowerment groups like Brother 2 Brother and Sisters for Success. Students can also participate in a variety of competitive sports and creative clubs, such as Cosmetology, Cooking, and Mid Point Poetry, to help them grow as people outside of school. Hiatt Middle School works hard to make sure that all students and visitors feel welcome and at home. The average price of homes in the area is between $130,000 and $240,000. Hiatt is a primary focus for the 2026 bond project, which includes plans for new building additions and labs.
