Rising Starr Middle School 7th grade science teacher Melissa Knowles has been named the 2025-2026 Teacher of the Year. The school’s volleyball team also finished as champions, capping off an incredible undefeated season. The school also received its 7th recertification as a Georgia National Lighthouse School to Watch, the only school in the state to receive that many designations. The award is on the basis of academic excellence, responsiveness to the developmental needs, social equity and structure.
