Rio Norte Junior High at 28771 Rio Norte Drive in the Canyon Country area of Santa Clarita, CA 91350, serves students in grades 7 and 8 within the William S. Hart Union High School District. Enrollment is about 1,110 students, and the student–teacher ratio is approximately 23:1. With 53% of students being male and 47% being female, the gender distribution is almost equal. State testing indicates that approximately 53% of students are proficient in math, while around 76% demonstrate proficiency in reading. The school offers required middle-grade courses and exploratory electives that include arts and technology options as part of its academic program. On February 12, 2026, the students from Rio Norte Junior High in Team Colorado went to the Los Angeles Zoo on a planned field trip. The visit happened during school hours and included planned activities at the Los Angeles zoo. The trip gave students a chance to learn about science and the environment outside of school.
