It is one of the seven high schools in the Madison Metropolitan School District and is known as one of the best because of its strong academics and welcoming atmosphere. With about 1,500 students, the school keeps a student-to-teacher ratio of about 13:1. LaFollette High School is one of the best schools for getting ready for college. It has a wide range of Advanced Placement® classes, and 33% of students take them. There are a lot of different types of students at the school. For example, 73% of the students are minorities, and 53% of them are economically disadvantaged. Data shows that for the 2026 school year, 14% of students are good at math and 22% are good at reading. The school sets up important tests like the ACT and SAT to help students move on to college. It is known as one of the best schools in the area because it has a diverse student body and is dedicated to giving all of its students challenging college-level work.

La Follette High School just opened its newly remodeled aquatic center and athletics wing. This is a big step forward in the school's ongoing efforts to improve its infrastructure. The campus has started a new bilingual education program for 2026 to help its diverse community by offering more world languages and cultural exchange programs. The "Personalized Pathways" program has also helped students by adding new certificate options in health sciences and information technology.
