Garland is a big, diverse city in the DFW Metroplex with about 240,000 people living there. It has a "dense suburban feel," a long history of industry, and a lively, multicultural way of life. The city has a public school district that is better than average. It has a unique "choice" system that lets families choose the schools that are best for their kids. High schools focus on magnet programs, career and technical education (CTE), and a wide range of extracurricular activities.
