See top schools in GermantownNorthwest High School is a public high school in Germantown, Maryland. It is part of the Montgomery County Public Schools system and serves students in grades 9–12. There are about 2,300 students at the school, and the student-to-teacher ratio is about 18:1, which helps keep students interested in class. One of the best schools in the area is Northwest High School. It offers a lot of different classes, such as Advanced Placement (AP) classes, which about 70% of students pass. This school has a wide range of students. About 78% of them are from minority groups, and about 34% come from families with low incomes. For the 2025–2026 school year, academic proficiency data show that about 10% of students are good at math and about 59% are good at reading. Students have access to standardized testing opportunities, including SAT and ACT, when appropriate. This money helps pay for student services and teaching programs. Northwest High School is in a well-established neighborhood in Germantown that is easy to get to from the suburbs. Because it has a lot of different subjects, a diverse student body, and a focus on getting students ready for college.

Northwest High School held an Incoming 9th Grade Parent Meeting on January 22, 2026, which gave parents useful information. The school is also working on getting students ready for college and jobs. The College Career Information Center has resources for this. Northwest High School also has a Diversity Night event planned for January 30, 2026, to encourage diversity and acceptance. The school's football team has also done well, with recent win against Walter Johnson High School by a score of 45–7.
