It has about 1,400 students and a student-to-teacher ratio of about 16:1. The school is well-known for its tough academics, especially its Advanced Placement® program, which has a high participation rate of 54%, and it is one of the best high school in Hawaii. Ninety-two percent of the students are from minority groups, and nineteen percent of the students come from low-income families. The school is known for its high academic standards, with a 72% proficiency rate in Reading and a 45% proficiency rate in Math. Students are strongly encouraged to take the SAT and ACT tests so that the school can keep up its tradition of sending a lot of students to college. Kalani High School is one of the best schools in the state. After a successful winter season in which they won several first-place medals at regional diving and swimming championships, Kalani High School recently celebrated the selection of its 2026 class of student athletes for the OIA East All-Star teams. Team 3008, the school's internationally known robotics team, is also getting ready for the 2026 regional competition season. They are doing this by building a new robot with advanced sensor integration. This semester, the campus has also started a "College and Career Center" program just for seniors to help them with their FAFSA applications and find scholarships.
