The school has about 1,000 to 1,100 students and a student-to-teacher ratio of about 16:1, which is typical for large urban high schools in the district. Southwest High School offers a full range of classes, including college-prep classes, career and technical education (CTE) pathways, fine arts, and sports. The school focuses on building basic skills, getting students ready for the workforce, and getting them ready for college through both academic and extracurricular activities.
