There are about 900 to 1,000 students at the school, and the student-teacher ratio is about 16 to 1, which is what the district says it should be. Northeast High School has a regular high school curriculum that includes college-prep classes, career and technical education (CTE) programs, fine arts, and sports. The school focuses on giving students the basic academic skills they need, as well as options for preparing for the workforce and extracurricular activities that help them grow as people. Most of the students are from minority groups, which is similar to the makeup of the Macon community and makes for a diverse learning environment. Roughly 10% of students are good at reading (ELA), and only about 3% are good at math. The school gets its money from the state and local education budgets. Students also take regular tests and tests to see if they are ready for college, such as the SAT.
