The Hillcrest Elementary School and Campbell County School District #1 communities are currently talking about how to plan for district property, including what will happen to the old Hillcrest Elementary building in the future. At recent school board meetings, trustees gave the go-ahead for a public hearing and approved a plan to sell off some district-owned land that is no longer needed, including the old Hillcrest site. This choice shows that the district is trying to make the best use of its resources and meet the long-term needs of its buildings as enrollment patterns change. People in the community and local leaders are keeping a close eye on how this process plays out and what it might mean for Gillette's growth.
