PODER Academy is a charter school located in Cheyenne, Wyoming, situated in a small city setting. There are about 214 students at the school, which serves kids in grades K–6. There are 11 full-time teachers at the school, which means that there is one teacher for every 19 students. There are 43% girls and 57% boys in the class, and 34% of them are considered economically disadvantaged. PODER Academy focuses on individualized learning and culturally relevant education. Its programs are meant to help students get better at reading, writing, math, and critical thinking, as well as help them grow as people. The school does very well in school. In math, 87% of students scored at or above the proficient level, and in reading (ELA), 82% of students met or exceeded the proficient level. Compared to what is expected in the area and the state, this is a big deal. The school has a diverse student body, with a lot of Hispanic students, which fits with the school's goal of helping underserved communities. PODER Academy is in a safe area of Cheyenne and has a community-oriented feel.
