Columbia Elementary School is located at 2508 Utter Street, Bellingham in a friendly, established suburban neighbourhood of the Bellingham School District. They serve students from grades PK-5 and enrolls approximately 210 students with a student-teacher ratio of 15:1. In math, 52% of students reached the proficient level or higher, while in reading, 57% achieved that level or above. The student population is made up of 50% female students and 50% male students. Columbia Elementary is a caring and inquiry-focused learning community where students not only gain academic skills but also become aware of the world through community-based and individually guided programs.
The school holds the prestigious status of being an International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP) certified school, which is a rare feature for elementary schools in the region. Teachers, small-school environment, and community feeling that parents have always praised are the main reasons why Columbia Elementary has been ranked as one of the best elementary schools in Washington.
