In 2023–24, about 78% of students passed math and 81% passed reading SOL tests, exceeding state averages of ~78% and ~81%.Elementary schools like Trantwood rank in the top 30% statewide, with 65–69% math proficiency and 75–79% reading proficiency.Other strong performers include Shelton Park Elementary, where 57% of students are math-proficient and 77% reading-proficient.
Despite steady progress, the district’s reading gains have slightly declined since 2022 . To sustain momentum, Virginia Beach is investing in instructional coaching, data-driven literacy programs, and community supports. With high pass rates and targeted improvement strategies, the district continues advancing high-quality elementary education.
