The city of Lynchburg, Virginia, has a strong start for pre-k education with the 11 elementary schools in the Lynchburg City Schools district. All the city schools meet and exceed Virginia's high expectations and standards for learning with the academic framework and curriculum of the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL). Established elementary schools like Paul Munro Elementary and Sandusky Elementary have an established trend of excellent student performance and demonstrated proficiency in math and reading with up-to-date testing standards. Some of the more innovative programming offered at Deerington Elementary and T. C. Miller Elementary display the emphasis on initiative, creativity, and experiential learning for elementary grade levels.
