The Granite School District is seeing fewer students enroll in West Valley City and is thinking about closing schools or changing the boundaries to better balance the number of students in each school.
As part of its efforts to make schools safer, the district has improved security at elementary schools by adding secure entry systems.
Q1. Does West Valley Elementary School help students who are learning English as a second language (ELL)?
Ans. Yes, the school has a special ELL/ESL program that helps students who don't speak English as their first language improve their language skills while also learning academic material.
Q2. What extra or enrichment programs are available?
Ans. Students can join after-school clubs, arts programs, and hands-on activities that are meant to help them learn more and be more creative.
Q3. How do teachers grade students and tell parents how their kids are doing?
Ans. The school does state testing and regular benchmark tests, and teachers tell parents how their kids are doing through report cards and parent-teacher conferences.
Q4. What can parents do to help at school?
Ans. Parents are encouraged to join the school's PTA or volunteer program, help with school events, and take part in activities in the classroom and in the community.
Q5. Does West Valley Elementary help students who have special needs?
Ans. Yes, the school offers special education services, individualized education plans (IEPs), and other help to students who learn in different ways.
