Where learning is an adventure and every child is valued—Shannondale Elementary School in Knoxville is developing the thinkers, dreamers, and leaders of tomorrow. Located in the heart of Knoxville, it has become a guide for the development of curious, confident, and successful children. With grades K–5, a total enrollment of 382 students, and a student-teacher ratio of 15:1 for 26 full-time teachers, Shannondale Elementary provides individualized learning for children. The student population is made up of 54% females, 46% males, and 24% of the enrollment is classified as minorities, as reported by the United States Census. This indicates a commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Academically, Shannondale is ranked #107 in the state of Tennessee and #6 in Knox County. Currently, 58% of students are proficient in math, and 60% of students are proficient in reading. This is above the state averages. Shannondale has a strong community and parent volunteers, innovative and educational programs, high district support, and a culture of respect that enhances the development of academic success and character. Because of these factors, families are choosing to move into the area. Median home prices are around $410,000, bringing suburban life to the urban core. In 2024 Shannondale Elementary started a $4 million expansion to their buildings to accommodate their growing student body. In March 2024 Mrs. Ezell was awarded B97.5 Teacher of the Month for her hard work. In January 2025 Superintendent Jon Rysewyk visited the school. He showed support and spoke with staff and students to recognize the school’s accomplishments.
