In early 2025, Woodland Heights Elementary School in Spartanburg made headlines across the country for its ongoing efforts to make its students healthier and happier. The school won the award for being one of America's Healthiest Schools. This award goes to schools that work hard to make learning environments that are balanced and helpful.
Teachers and staff have been working for a long time to teach kids how to eat well and get them to move every day. Students can play fitness games and do things outside that are based on eating well. They also get short breaks in class to move around and stretch their legs. Families can now go to wellness nights at the cafeteria that encourage healthy living at home. The cafeteria also serves healthier food.
People in Spartanburg have liked the attention. The school puts the health and safety of its students first, according to parents. The success of Woodland Heights Elementary shows that it is doing a good job of taking care of the minds and bodies of all the kids it serves.
