Being Updated
Tara Newton, the principal of Briggs Elementary School in Florence, South Carolina, has recently been in the news for a big accomplishment. During a school assembly earlier this year, she was surprised to be named Florence 1 Schools' Principal of the Year. The award came with a $10,000 check and a lot of applause from staff, students, and district leaders. Briggs Elementary is known for its friendly environment and creative ways of teaching since Newton took over. The "Farm at Briggs" is one of the best programs. Students raise chickens, take care of gardens, and learn about making healthy food choices. Teachers say this is one of the reasons why students are more interested in and excited to come to school. The award is a sign of both Newton's leadership and the hard work of the Briggs Elementary community, which is still focused on growth, teamwork, and student success.
