Latest News

In late October 2025, the Beaufort County School District officially broke ground on May River Elementary School. This new school is being built to help with the problem of too many students at schools in the Bluffton area, like Okatie Elementary. Okatie is almost full now, which means that there isn't enough room in the classrooms and the programs can't be as flexible as they could be. According to the most recent news, a new school will open in the 2027–2028 school year. The goals are to make it easier for students to enroll, improve class sizes, and give students more chances to participate in programs. All the families and staff here are very interested in this news because it will likely change the way students are assigned to schools and the zones they live in when the new school opens. The district has begun holding public meetings to hear what people in the community think and make sure that the students who are affected have a smooth transition. This project shows that the district is focused on growing and making plans for the future. It gives hope that Okatie Elementary and nearby schools will have better places to learn and more resources.
