See top schools in AikenOakwood-Windsor Elementary School is part of Aiken County Public Schools and serves children in kindergarten through fifth grade. The school enrolls roughly 450 to 500 students, and its student–teacher ratio of about fourteen to one allows teachers to work closely with small groups during lessons. Students spend much of their time building reading, writing, and basic math skills, and teachers weave in hands-on activities for science and social studies to keep learning practical. Art, music, and physical education are part of the weekly schedule, and students who need extra support can participate in intervention programs offered by the school. The school serves a mix of families, with a little more than half of its students identifying as part of a minority group. U.S. News data shows that the school’s performance in math and English language arts is below the state average, and staff are working to strengthen those areas through targeted instruction. Per-pupil spending generally matches statewide levels and helps cover classroom materials and student services. Located in a rural part of Aiken County with affordable housing, the school is known for its close-knit feel and helpful staff. It remains a steady, supportive place for students as they build their early academic skills.
