About Horse Creek Academy

Horse Creek Academy is a public charter school in Aiken, South Carolina, that teaches kids from kindergarten through eighth grade. The school has about a thousand students, and with a student–teacher ratio of about sixteen to one, teachers can work with small groups all day. Project-based learning is the main way that students learn. They read, do math, do science, and do social studies, and they also do hands-on activities. Students have regular classes in music, technology, and physical education. If they need extra help, they can use intervention programs. The school has students from a wide range of backgrounds, and about 40% of them identify as members of a minority group. U.S. News says that the school's math and English language arts skills are below the state average. To improve those areas, the staff is focusing on targeted instruction. The amount of money each student gets is similar to that of other charter schools in the state. It pays for classroom supplies, academic programs, and student services. The school is in a growing part of Aiken County that has both new and old neighborhoods.
