Reading Partners, a nonprofit that helps people learn to read, has recently grown a lot within Union Public Schools. Thomas Jefferson Elementary School is one of the new schools. In an effort to improve basic reading skills, the program will start at ten Union elementary schools, including Jefferson, in the 2025–26 school year. The district and Reading Partners expect volunteer tutors to help students read one-on-one and in a structured way during the school day. The Union school board approved the expansion in July 2025, and the district put $100,000 of Reading Sufficiency Act funds toward it.
