See top schools in TulsaPeary Elementary School is a public school in Tulsa, Oklahoma, which is a big city. The school has about 268 students and serves kids from Pre-K to 5th grade. There are 14 students for every teacher, which is a little better than the district average. The school has 19 full-time equivalent teachers and 1 full-time school counselor. Half of the students are girls and half are boys, and 96% of the students come from low-income families. Peary Elementary focuses on creating a supportive learning environment and offers programs that help students grow socially and emotionally as well as academically. Twelve percent of the school's students were good at math, and eight percent were good at reading. Peary did a little better in math than all of Tulsa Public Schools, but a little worse in reading. The school's proficiency levels are lower than the state averages in Oklahoma, which are 26% in math and 25% in reading. Peary Elementary is ranked between 494 and 658 among Oklahoma elementary schools based on how well its students do on state-required tests and how well it prepares them for middle and high school. The school has trouble with academic success, but its small class sizes, dedicated staff, and strong ties to the community all help it support student growth and development.

Being Updated
Peary Elementary School was in the news recently when Tulsa Public Schools made it clear that the district's controversial "Proposal C" consolidation plan would not close the school. After district leaders said something earlier that made it sound like the school might be closing, the school community was very worried. The superintendent later said he "misspoke," which confirmed that Peary and Central will stay open. Parents and staff are relieved by this news because Peary has been a part of the Magic Circle neighborhood for a long time and has served many families over the years. At the same time, the whole district is under financial scrutiny: the school board has publicly aired complaints after a critical financial audit found more than 1,400 problems with how TPS spent its money. In short, Peary Elementary's future looks bright for now, even though the district is having trouble with money and running the school.
