Being Updated
As per recent story about Mark Twain Elementary School in Oklahoma City interesting, People are talking about a caring effort at Mark Twain Elementary that helps students in ways other than schoolwork. Local news says that a fourth-grade teacher at the school has started a weekly program where students pack snack bags—one for themselves and one for a friend—so that kids who might not have food for the weekend can have some. Donors are the only ones who pay for the program, which gives out food bags with light meals, snacks, and drinks. Some weeks, the school gives out as many as 300 bags, while other weeks, it only gives out about 60. The teacher said, "Some of our kids go through harder things... it teaches them to understand how others feel in their community. This effort shows promise in getting students and the community involved, even though academic data is still an important measure.
