Westgate Alternative Elementary School recently kicked off its “Westgate Way” initiative, which is centered on rewarding positive behavior and building a strong, trauma-informed school community. The campus also hosted a successful “Family Literacy Night,” where students and parents participated in interactive reading workshops and explored the new collection of multicultural books in the library. The school is also being recognized for its focus on student wellness through its expanded morning breakfast and social-emotional check-in programs.
Q1. What is the philosophy of education at Westgate Alternative Elementary School?
Ans. We believe in educating the whole child by providing a welcoming, safe academic environment with a trauma-informed culture and rigorous standards-based curriculum.
Q2. What are the requirements for students to be enrolled in the Westgate Pre-K program?
Ans. Pre-K students must be 4 years old by the cutoff date, live within the Columbus City School District and be potty-trained by the first day of school.
Q3. Does Westgate Alternative Elementary School provide transportation for their youngest students?
Ans. Transportation is generally not provided for Early Childhood Education students unless the child has an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) specifying transportation as a need.
Q4. What time do Westgate Alternative students normally go to school?
Ans. Classrooms typically operate on a full-day schedule from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with an optional breakfast program that generally begins at 8:30 a.m. each morning.
Q5. How can families find out more about Westgate or schedule a visit to campus?
Ans. Families are encouraged to contact the school to arrange a personal visit to learn more about the culture and academic performance and take a school tour.
