Gamble Montessori High School seventh and eighth grade students learned West African drum and dance traditions during a six-week residency with Bi Okoto Cultural Center artists through an Ohio Arts Council grant. Each of the junior high communities learned a different piece of music and performed their work at two assemblies for family and community members, celebrating rhythm, movement and cultural heritage. Eleventh grader Iyanna Wilson organized a book drive and was selected for the World Literacy Foundation’s global program, where she’ll collaborate with young leaders from 40 countries on literacy strategies.
