Being Updated
School 9 is proud of its role in the district's academic turnaround, offering all students a safe, supportive, and high-achieving school environment. The school recently held its annual “Reading with the Pros” event where guest speakers shared personal stories to inspire a lifelong love of books. The campus also continues its emphasis on family engagement with its new series of monthly interactive workshops and community resource nights.
Q1. What is the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. that informs the daily lessons at School 9?
Ans. Students participate in daily social justice discussions, and learn about Dr. King’s values through daily community service and leadership projects.
Q2. Are there any literacy workshops for families at School 9 to assist with reading with children at home?
Ans. We host "Heritage Literacy Nights," where families read together and learn strategies to support young readers from our expert staff.
Q3. What specific leadership positions are available for students to help run the daily operations of the School 9 campus?
Ans. Fifth grade students can apply to be “Peace Ambassadors” to mentor younger kids and lead our morning school-wide announcements every day.
Q4. What do the annual spring “Service Day” activities at School 9 entail, and how does the local community participate?
Ans. We partner with students and staff to beautify our neighborhood – cleaning up local parks and planting trees in honor of our common home.
Q5. Are there any programs at School 9 for students who want to go into law?
Ans. We have a “Justice Club” on our campus that teaches students about basic legal principles and importance of civic advocacy in Rochester.
