Being Updated
School 21 is featuring its lively “Reading Buddies” program this week, where older students visit primary classrooms weekly to read stories and promote a love of literacy. Recently, this school held a very successful “Math Carnival” where students were able to participate in interactive games to develop foundational numeracy skills in a fun and energetic atmosphere. The ‘Open Door’ communication policy has been praised by families and has helped staff to build closer links with parents in the community.
Q1. How does “Reading Buddies” at School 21 encourage younger students to love books?
Ans. By pairing older and younger students together to share stories weekly, we are building a supportive campus community excited about reading together.
Q2. Do you have any annual events at School 21 that are math-related that bring in local families and people from the neighborhood?
Ans. Our “Math Carnival” features interactive logic games and puzzles to give parents and students an opportunity to practice numeracy skills in a fun environment.
Q3. What type of digital devices do School 21 students have for learning at school and at home?
Ans. Every student is given a personal digital device with interactive software to help their daily growth in math and literacy.
Q4. What does School 21 do to build character and create a positive and respectful school culture?
Ans. We reward students with “Spirit Slips” when they show kindness and celebrate these winners at our high energy monthly assemblies.
Q5. Is there a “Walking School Bus” program for parents who would like to participate at the School 21 campus?
Ans. Every morning we coordinate supervised walking groups for students who live in the immediate neighborhood to ensure that they arrive to campus safely.
