Montessori public school, P.S. 2, is a community-driven public school that continues to develop as one of the emerging Elementary Schools in New York. The school serves approximately 270 students from Pre-K to grade 5, and maintains a low student-teacher ratio of 8 to 1 in order to provide personalized support. Although current grade-level proficiency rates are approximately 17% in both math and reading, teachers and administrators are emphasizing both collectable growth and incremental individual academic achievement. Troy, with a median home price of about $192,500, serves families in affordable and relatively welcoming communities. P.S.2 is dedicated to continued growth on foundational skills, and as an organization, is continuing a growing focus on literacy—making it one of the exceptional Elementary Schools in New York.

Q1. What type of specialized programs does PS 2 have?
A: PS 2 have programs for reading assistance, and for intellectually gifted students, with classroom tutoring offered after school.
Q2. What opportunities does a parent have to participate?
A: You can participate in our SAC/SAF meetings, and PTA events, or even help in the classroom!
Q3. What do students do for enjoyment outside of class?
A: PS 2 have art and robotics, plus clubs for eco-friendly kids, and sports also!
Q4. How do you know if my child is succeeding?
A: Teachers use student performance data in class, and attendance. This data informs teachers about how they are working with students and offers opportunities to provide additional support.
Q5. What do facilities does PS 2 have?
A: PS 2 have a computer lab, library, and gym, too! Which allows students to practice and apply different modes of learning.
