School 54-Flower City Community School is building on its success as an EL Education school and recently hosted a “Curriculum Exhibition” on urban sustainability. This semester, the school celebrated its newest student leaders who reached new heights in their core academic and character goals. The campus has also continued to be a center for community engagement, with students recently staging an original theatrical production about Rochester’s history.
Q1. What kind of field research do students at School 54 - Flower City Community School do in their local community?
Ans. Students will take field trips to local businesses and landmarks to gather data for extended research expeditions on urban development and history.
Q2. Does School 54-Flower City Community School have a regular public display of high quality student work?
Ans. Yes, the students do present their projects to parents and community experts because they want to show how much they have learned academically each semester.
Q3. How does technology support the social-emotional curriculum at School 54-Flower City Community School on a daily basis?
Ans. Students tell stories of community that develop empathy and strong peer relationships to express their feelings using digital storytelling apps.
Q4. What student leadership opportunities exist on the School 54-Flower City Community School campus?
Ans. Students may be able to serve as “Community Stewards” to help with campus beautification projects and lead school-wide recycling and pride initiatives.

Ans. The curriculum ties textbook lessons to students’ own neighborhoods, including local landmarks and the city’s industrial history.
