School 53 Montessori Academy recently hosted their annual “Practical Life Fair” highlighting the self-directed skills and independence students have gained through the Montessori model. The school is celebrating record high student enrollment, which is a testament to the community’s strong confidence in its unique academic and social philosophy. Also, the campus recently renovated its outdoor classroom space to encourage nature-based exploration and learning.
Q1. In which “Practical Life” stations do the students at School 53 Montessori Academy show their independence?
Ans. Children learn simple everyday skills such as taking care of plants, cooking food, etc., making routine work a practical learning experience.
Q2. Are there any “Peace Studies” at School 53 Montessori Academy that are developed to help students resolve conflicts on campus?
Ans. We teach our students to resolve any peer conflict peacefully through respectful communication and empathy.
Q3. How do you use the outdoor classroom each week for nature-based exploration at School 53 Montessori Academy?
Ans. Biology students learn about biology through hands-on learning, for example studying local ecosystems and maintaining our school garden.
Q4. What are the specific benefits for students in a multi-age classroom at School 53 Montessori Academy?
Ans. Senior students are role models for the juniors and everyone can learn at a more personalized and collaborative pace.
Q5. How does the faculty at School 53 Montessori Academy support students’ self-directed academic investigations?
Ans. Teachers are there to guide students, providing them with specialized materials and the chance to explore subjects of special interest to them.
