Being Updated
The GCC-Flour City Campus is celebrating the success of its first "Community Service Day," during which all of the students worked on projects to make their neighborhoods better. The campus recently held a "Arts and Inquiry" showcase, which showed off student-led research into how creative visual media can be used to study local urban development. Parents have also said that the school's "Family Circles" are a big reason why the charter campus and the people who live nearby get along so well.
Q1. What kinds of neighborhood improvement projects did people work on during the GCC-Flour City Campus service day?
Ans. Students cleaned up playgrounds in their area and planted flower beds to learn how important it is to be proud of their Rochester community.
Q2. How does the GCC-Flour City Campus "Arts and Inquiry" showcase use creative visual media?
Ans. Students use digital storytelling and photography to share their research on how cities grow and neighborhoods change with their families.
Q3. How do the "Family Circles" at GCC-Flour City Campus help make the charter school community stronger?
Ans. Parents and staff can talk about school goals and how each student is doing in these small group meetings, which are casual and comfortable.
Q4. Are there any special literacy workshops for parents at GCC-Flour City Campus that they can use at home?
Ans. We hold "Literacy Lounges" where parents can learn fun, arts-based ways to help their kids become better readers and writers.
Q5. What kinds of leadership roles can second and third graders take on at GCC-Flour City Campus?
Ans. Younger students can be "Classroom Stewards," which means they are in charge of the daily routine and help their classmates during group project time.
