Genesee Community Charter School is still a national leader in expeditionary learning. Recently, the whole school finished a study on the Erie Canal's history. The school's "Curriculum Exhibition" was a big hit with local historians and community members. Students showed off their high-quality research and artifacts. Also, the campus is still a center for arts integration. Recently, students put on an original play based on Rochester's rich history.
Q1. What do students at Genesee Community Charter School do to learn about the Erie Canal?
Ans. Classes go on walking tours and boat trips to collect water samples and learn about how the canal has shaped Rochester's growth over time.
Q2. What kinds of historical artifacts are made for the "Curriculum Exhibition" at Genesee Community Charter School?
Ans. Students make 3D models, write their own plays, and record digital oral histories to make their historical research come to life.
Q3. Is there a drama program at Genesee Community Charter School that focuses on the history of Rochester?
Ans. Yes, students write and perform their own plays that tell the stories of famous Rochester people and events.
Q4. How does the "Expeditionary Learning" model at Genesee Community Charter School help students get involved?
Ans. Students gain a strong sense of purpose and a real love of discovery when they connect what they learn in books to what they do in the field.
Q5. Is it possible for parents to help plan the Genesee Community Charter School curriculum through family circles?
Ans. Parents are invited to share their professional knowledge during "Expedition Meetings." This helps staff connect what students learn in class to jobs in the real world.
