The following is some of the recent developments regarding continued community involvement at P.S. 163 Alfred E. Smith of the Upper West Side in Manhattan. Civics education remains a key focus with students engaging in "Civics for All" exercises in the city whereby they discuss topics related to civic issues in class and in the process connect learning to the real world. The school continues to actively engage parents in their initiatives through communication using its official channels.
Q1. What extracurricular activities does P.S. 163 offer?
Ans. The school provides arts and crafts program, music and physical fitness education, and various academic clubs which encourage creativity and help enrich their learning experience outside classroom hours.
Q2. What admission criteria does the school have?
Ans. Admissions are usually done by zoning for local children and city-wide admissions opportunities for Gifted & Talented depending upon test scores and seat availability.
Q3. How do kids get to P.S. 163?
Ans. Kids can travel via public NYC school buses if available. Also, many children from this neighborhood prefer walking because of the proximity of the school.
Q4. Is there any provision for children with special needs?
Ans. Yes, the school has provisions for special needs children. They provide special education services such as IEPs (individualized education programs).
Q5. How can parents be involved in the school activities?
Ans. Parental involvement can happen via school activities, parent associations, or by constant parent-teacher communications.
