P.S. 1 Alfred E. Smith in New York City, specifically Manhattan, recently made news when it was awarded as the “Ready School of the Year” by NYC Emergency Management, due to its dedication to preparing students for disasters and educating its community about safety. The ceremony included exhibits prepared by the students, which were related to topics such as disaster preparedness, multilingual education, and efforts towards community resilience. School officials stressed that there was a lot of emphasis on experiential learning, including field trips related to emergency management and community services.
Q1. How do I apply for admission into P.S. 1 Alfred E. Smith School?
Ans. Admissions will follow the New York City Department of Education’s elementary school placement criteria, where students living in the zoning zone get preference.
Q2. Does the school provide after-school activities for children?
Ans. Yes, P.S. 1 Alfred E. Smith School offers after-school programs in partnership with other institutions, which can be helpful academically as well.
Q3. Is there a requirement for a uniform for students enrolled in P.S. 1 Alfred E. Smith School?
Ans. There are no uniforms required; however, students must adhere to the appropriate NYC Public Schools dress codes.
Q4. Are any special services available for students with special needs?
Ans. Special education programs are provided in the form of an individualized approach to learning and help from instructors inside classrooms.
