Long Island City’s Hunters Point Elementary School (P.S. 384Q) is poised for a major transformation. New York City Public Schools has put forward a radical plan to turn the school into a middle school. Under the plan, P.S. 384Q will add its first 6th-grade class in the 2026-2027 school year, adding a new middle school grade in subsequent years. By 2027, grades K-3 will be moved to a new, modern building on 54th Avenue nearby to accommodate the massive growth.
