The Leo F. Giblyn School is a prestigious community of Freeport and a leading elementary school in New York. It serves grades K–4 and currently enrolls approximately 526 students. The school employs 47 staff, allowing for an admirable student-to-teacher ratio of 11:1. Giblyn is culturally diverse; the community has a 93% minority enrollment and 65% economically disadvantaged students. Giblyn excels in student achievement yet again, achieving 62% proficiency in mathematics, 57% in reading, and 85%–89% in science. Principal Amy Lederer and Counselor Camille Trenkle lead the school with a commitment to inspiring student curiosity, character, and community through signature programs such as ALS patient projects and Adopt-a-Cop. Freeport is the home of famous figures such as NFL star D'Brickashaw Ferguson, rapper and TV host Flavor Flav, and activist Medea Benjamin, creating a long tradition of success and influence in this local community.
