P.S. 811 Connie Lekas School serves students ages 11 to 21 with autism, cognitive challenges and multiple disabilities. It has four sites in Brooklyn. The atmosphere is safe and orderly and students say they feel respected. The school’s 5:1 student-teacher ratio allows for opportunity for individualized instruction. In the 2024-2025 NYC School Survey, 94% of students report feeling safe in hallways, bathrooms and locker rooms. Teachers raised $16,144 on DonorsChoose.org to fund 25 projects, including technology and books to improve learning for students with special needs.
