Being Updated
Phase-out of MS 394, located in Crown Heights, New York City, made headlines in May 2025 when the NYC Panel for Educational Policy unanimously voted to close the school within the next three school years, replacing it with the new Central Brooklyn Literacy Academy, which specializes in teaching students with dyslexia or other difficulties related to literacy. The change is scheduled to begin this coming fall. Parents of current students have been informed of the decision through the NYC Department of Education.
Q1. Can children still enroll in MS 394?
Ans. MS 394 is undergoing a phase-out that began in May 2025, and parents are advised to reach out to the NYC Department of Education about enrolling their children in other schools.
Q2. What other school will take over MS 394 once it is closed down?
Ans. The Central Brooklyn Literacy Academy will be established in the same premises and will cater to learners with dyslexia.
Q3. What reasons have led to the closure of MS 394?
Ans. The New York City Panel for Educational Policy decided to close down the school because of the low number of pupils enrolled and poor academic results compared to the rest of the city.
Q4. Which grades does MS 394 teach?
Ans. MS 394 teaches pre-kindergarten pupils through eighth graders at its Crown Heights campus.
Q5. How will the phase-out of MS 394 impact the learners enrolled there?
Ans. The NYC Department of Education will liaise directly with parents who have their children enrolled in MS 394 to ensure a smooth transition into the new school.
