It Takes A Village Academy students, mentored by NYU-Poly engineering fellow Zachary Nishino, took their robotics team to the New York State FIRST Tech Challenge at the Javits Center and advanced to the World Finals in St. Louis. The team of Brooklyn students from an inner-city Haitian neighborhood quickly adapted their driving skills and built a rugged, maneuverable robot with a strong drivetrain that impressed judges by the final rounds. The school maintains a Community School model with a School-Based Mental Health Clinic through Interborough and a site coordinator from The Leadership Program to support students and families.
