Frederick Douglass Academy VII made history with its first cultural immersion trip to Ghana. The trip was organized with African Roots Travel and Birthright Africa and reunited students, staff and families with African heritage. The group visited Assin Manso and Cape Coast Slave Dungeon where they paid a commemorative wreath at the Slave Last Bath and walked through the Door of No Return in honour of the ancestors and to reflect on resilience. Students also experienced Ghanaian education and culture, developing lifelong relationships with peers in Ghana as part of the school’s mission to strengthen ties with the diaspora.
