Being Updated
PS 89 recently completed a major expansion of its fine arts program, providing children with daily opportunities for instrumental music and vocal lessons. The school touts its successful “Leadership Academy” which gives students a voice in campus decision-making and spirit planning. The campus recently opened up its new “Creative Commons,” a space designed to host advanced art projects and theatrical rehearsals.
Q1. How does PS 89 manage the safety and security of students entering the historic school building on Mace Avenue?
Ans. We use a secure, staff-monitored electronic check-in system and have clear entry protocols for all parents and visitors each morning for safety.
Q2. Does PS 89 provide any specialized literacy support for students who are "Emerging Bilinguals" in their early years?
Ans. Our campus features a "Dual Language Lab" where students receive targeted small-group support to build academic vocabulary and reading fluency daily.
Q3. What kind of hands-on STEM engineering challenges are students at PS 89 participating in during this school year?
Ans. Students work in teams to build functional bridges and model skyscrapers, turning complex scientific theories into exciting classroom-based projects.
Q4. How does PS 89 celebrate student academic milestones and personal growth each marking period on campus?
Ans. We host "Scholar Success" assemblies where families are invited to watch their children receive awards for effort and academic excellence each quarter.
Q5. Can parents at PS 89 volunteer for the "Community Helpers" group to help manage campus-wide neighborhood events?
Ans. Yes, we highly encourage parents to join our community committee to help organize seasonal neighborhood walks and school-wide service projects.
