And PS 86 Kingsbridge Heights is now being recognized for its high rate of student attendance each day — highest of any school in the Bronx this semester. To help families support their children in developing literacy and numeracy skills at home, the school recently launched a series of workshops called “Parent University.” The campus also recently held a ribbon cutting ceremony for its remodeled “Innovation Hub” to promote a supportive and inclusive school culture for all students.

Q1. What does the “Kingsbridge Heights Pride” initiative do to encourage students to respect one another more?

Ans. We reward students with “Pride Points” for positive social actions, to spend on fun group rewards and field trips across campus.

Q2. Does PS 86 offer any special academic support to students who are currently performing below grade level?

Ans. We offer “Saturday Success” sessions each school week and after school tutoring blocks to offer extra help in math and reading proficiency.

Q3. What student-led environmental projects are active on PS 86 campus such as a school garden?

Ans. Our “Green Team” club tends to our campus flower beds and learns about local ecology and sustainability through hands-on outdoor work.

Q4. How does PS 86 use its positive behavior systems for all students to create a safe and orderly campus?

Ans. We have a school-wide “Reward Badge” system where students can earn prizes for showing respect, responsibility and empathy to others on a daily basis.

Ans. All classrooms have a “Focus Spot” where students can take a few minutes during the day to breathe and reflect quietly as needed.
