Being Updated
PS 75 School Of Research And Discovery recently conducted a school-wide scientific inquiry project which transformed the school’s hallways into a museum of local urban ecosystems curated by students. The school is celebrating its newest “Inquiry Scholars,” students who have received recognition for their superior research skills and commitment to excellent academic presentations. The campus also partnered with a regional science museum to provide students with special behind-the-scenes workshops and field trips for their education.
Q1. How does the theme “Research and Discovery” change students’ view to the daily lessons of science?
Ans. Students act as scientists and use inquiry to question, experiment, and find answers through hands-on investigation in the classroom.
Q2. Does PS 75 make any special trips to New York science centers during the school year?
Ans. Yes, all grades go to local science museums and planetariums to connect their classroom research with professional scientific experts.
Q3. What are some of the hands-on engineering challenges PS 75 students are participating in this year?
Ans. Students work in teams to design working bridges and solar-powered cars, making complex scientific theories into exciting classroom-based projects on a daily basis.
Q4. How can PS 75 parents find out about their child’s current research projects and academic accomplishments?
Ans. Teachers post portfolios and project progress to digital portals that allow parents to witness the “discovery” process in real time.
Q5. Are there “Science Olympics” or expo PS 75 students can participate in throughout the campus?
Ans. Every year we host a “Discovery Expo” where students present their original experiments to teachers, family members and other experts in the scientific community in our area.
