PS 69 Journey Prep School is situated at 560 Thieriot Avenue in the Soundview area. It enrolls 540 students in grades PK-5 with a student-teacher ratio of 12:1. Math proficiency is 36% and reading proficiency is 27%. The gender population is 49% male and 51% female. The campus provides a supportive climate aimed at developing core skills in a safe setting. The academic program features a unique enrichment model that provides students with opportunities for creative problem-solving projects. Students participate in a specialized STEAM lab where they collaborate on weekly engineering and digital technology challenges. To foster leadership, the school runs a student council program that involves children in campus decision-making and community service. A performing arts elective also gives students the chance to participate in annual theater productions and dance recitals.
Q1. How does the theme “Journey Prep” impact the students’ perception of their future academic goals?
Ans. We integrate career exploration into our daily lessons so students can see the connection between what they are learning today and their dreams for their future lives.
Q2. Are there any special STEAM electives at PS 69 that focus on digital engineering or computer coding?
Ans. Each year, our campus features a state-of-the-art “Innovation Hub” where students use robotics kits and tablets to conduct hands-on technical and scientific research.
Q3. What are some specific things PS 69 does each day to create a positive and respectful culture on the campus?
Ans. We are working on a positive behavior reward system to reward kids for making good choices and showing empathy for their peers.
Q4. How does PS 69 work with the local Bronx community on its annual career day and student workshops?
Ans. “We partner with local business owners and professionals who come to share their knowledge and motivate our young scholars about various careers.
Q5. Can parents at PS 69 participate in the school leadership team to help establish academic growth goals?
Ans. We invite parents to join our SLT meetings so they may work directly with administration to help improve our campus and plans for student success.
