Recent news from P.S. 161 Juan Ponce De Leon School indicates that there is a lot going on during the beginning of this year, with parents and community being highly involved. There have been “Parent Engagement Days” at the school that include PTA meetings as well as a virtual math workshop aimed at promoting collaboration between the home and the school. A cultural event involved a visit from a famous author, Dav Pilkey, the creator of the beloved Dog Man series, who spoke with students about writing and storytelling. There are also ongoing community events, such as spirit days, which involve all students.
Q1. Do after-school programs exist at Ps 161 Juan Ponce De Leon School?
Ans. There are after-school programs at the school for academic enrichment and supervised participation outside the regular schedule.
Q2. How can transport facilities be accessed by children?
Ans. Children who are eligible and reside within specific NYC DOE zones can be provided with yellow buses or public transportation services.
Q3. Are meals provided to the children?
Ans. Breakfast and lunch meals are available to students enrolled under the public school nutritional scheme of New York City.
Q4. What are the services provided for special education?
Ans. Special education is offered at the school in terms of education plans and other services to cater to the special needs of different students.
Q5. What English language services are provided?
Ans. Children who are not fluent in English language will be assisted to learn the English language.
