Being Updated
Steele Elementary School families gathered recently for the district’s annual S.T.E.A.M. Night, which proved to be a huge hit as the cafeteria transformed into a hands-on lab. The school partnered directly with the Long Island Children’s Museum to give young learners a chance to solve real-world science and engineering problems with their parents. The evening was a mix of interactive experiments and a bit of creativity, a perfect illustration of the school’s commitment to making complex concepts fun, engaging and collaborative.
Q1. What is the math program like around here?
Ans. The school uses Eureka Math so kids really understand how numbers work, and don’t just memorize formulas for tests.
Q2. Can I drop my children early or pick them up late?
Ans. Yes, the Friedberg JCC has an on-site before & after school program with lots of supervised games and homework help for busy parents.
Q3. What happens to fifth graders when they graduate?
Ans. At this point, the children set off together to Baldwin Middle School and begin their next chapter.
Q4. Do the kids have a lot of art and music?
Ans. Yes, all students receive regular art instruction and in the upper grades are offered the opportunity to learn an instrument or join the chorus.
Q5. How can I get involved with the school?
Ans. The PTA is always looking for volunteers and holds regular meetings where parents can help out with school events and classroom projects.
