Albany School of Humanities is a public magnet school serving children from Pre-K to 5th grade with approximately 332 students in the student body and a beautifully diverse population. Classrooms average a 12:1 student: teacher ratio with 30 full-time certified teachers. Approximately 37% of students meet proficiency in math, and 42% meet proficiency in reading. Minority students represent roughly 84% of the student body, about 55% qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.
The school is led by Principal Marie Culihan and spent a total of over $41,000 per pupil for the 2023–24 school year, located in Albany's urban core, where the purchasing challenges for families often reflect a competitive housing market. The median home values run about $277K–$308K citywide with low inventory and increasing demand, especially for buyers. This school, in the heart of Albany, is tightly stitched together with the neighborhood and is a wonderful mix of academic rigor and colorful cultural richness.
