Mesilla Park Elementary School announced that its principal, Diane Barela, was named the 2026 Campus Employee of the Year. She also received districtwide recognition as Principal of the Year.
Q1. How does Mesilla Park teach basic astronomy ideas?
Ans. Students learn about the moon's phases, compare the skies at night and during the day, and make simple models to better understand how celestial patterns work.
Q2. What does the school do to help kids think creatively about math?
Ans. Students work on open-ended math problems, make up number stories, and use manipulatives in new ways to improve their ability to think about numbers in different ways.
Q3. What kinds of activities help people understand map symbols?
Ans. Teachers give students icons for parks, schools, and roads so they can make simple maps that are straightforward to read.
Q4. How does Mesilla Park help people explore different textures and materials?
Ans. Students compare natural and man-made objects by touching and looking at them to find differences.
Q5. What habits make working together on a story stronger?
Ans. Classes have shared storytelling circles where each student adds a sentence. This helps them use their imaginations and listen better.
