Mesilla Elementary School was recognized as a “Spotlight School” by the New Mexico Public Education Department for achieving the highest gains in ELA and Math scores in the district. The recognition highlights the school’s strong academic growth.
Q1. How does Mesilla Elementary School teach kids about different cultural storytelling traditions?
Ans. Students read folktales, community stories, and family-origin stories, and then they retell them through drawings or puppet scenes to help them understand better.
Q2. What does the school do to help kids learn more words about space?
Ans. Teachers use direction games, positional words, and movement-based cues so that students can practice describing where things are all the time.
Q3. What do people at Mesilla do that makes them interested in geology?
Ans. Students look at rocks, soil samples, and textures and talk about how natural materials are different and what they can tell us about the earth.
Q4. In what ways does Mesilla facilitate numeracy through practical applications?
Ans. Students engage in counting, measuring, and basic comparisons utilizing classroom materials, snack servings, and daily activities.
Q5. In what ways does the school promote imaginative play as an educational instrument?
Ans. Organized play areas enable students to engage in role-playing scenarios, construct themed environments, and enact narratives that foster intellectual and social growth.
